Types of solar batteries

How does a solar battery work?
A solar battery stores excess direct current from PV panels as electrochemical energy. The BMS (Battery Management System) controls charging and discharging so that the cells remain within a safe voltage range. When energy is needed, the stored power is released and converted into alternating current by the inverter.
Main battery chemistries:
LFP (LiFePO₄) – high safety, long service life, cobalt-free
NMC (LiNiMnCoO₂) – higher energy density, greater capacity in limited space, often used in commercial storage systems and electric vehicles
NCA, LTO, sodium-ion – advanced systems with advantages depending on specification (fast charging, availability, extremely long service life)
Is a solar battery worth it?
Yes, if it is designed correctly. In households, it is most often used for self-consumption. In combination with an electric vehicle, a heat pump, and a smart tariff, the payback period is often 10–20 years. For business systems, it depends on the load profile and the supply contract. A well-designed system can pay for itself within 5–10 years, despite the higher initial investment.
