Commercial Battery Storage
Using solar energy efficiently
Having a large solar system on your company roof or barn is a great thing. Using the energy it produces efficiently is quite another. The central component is selecting the right commercial battery storage system. This allows the generated energy to be used efficiently and profitably.
The most important areas of application for commercial battery storage
Optimize self-consumption
Instead of feeding electricity into the grid at low prices, you can consume it yourself to save on high purchasing costs. However, because the PV system does not always produce electricity when it is needed and not necessarily in the necessary quantities, storage units are used and enable a significantly higher self-consumption rate and self-sufficiency.
Peak Load Capping
Electricity suppliers sometimes pay a high price for providing large amounts of electricity. They pay for the peak loads, i.e. the maximum power consumed within a billing period. These load peaks can be capped and costs reduced with an industrial storage system with peak shaving. The storage system is programmed to kick in when the demand for electricity is particularly high and thus also expensive.
Alternative to grid expansion
If the demand for electricity increases drastically, the existing supply infrastructure may not be sufficient. Instead of investing a lot of time and money in grid expansion, the cheaper alternative is to purchase commercial storage that provides the required power.
Set up charging infrastructure
A great deal of electrical power is needed to charge several electric cars at the same time. If this were to overload the grid infrastructure, it would first have to be expanded at great expense. In addition, certain charging scenarios could lead to expensive peak loads. Commercial storage facilities can provide this power exactly when it is needed.
Backup or emergency power
With the appropriate functionality, commercial storage units can be used for emergency or backup power supply, or for grid-forming operation. In the event of a power failure, the storage unit steps in and supplies connected loads or loads defined for this function, depending on the installation.
Energy trading
Large storage facilities with grid support take in electricity when there is overproduction and release it again when there is underproduction. This makes commercial storage an alternative to gas turbine power plants, for example, which the grid operator starts up when there is underproduction. This application requires agreements and contracts with the energy supplier, who then needs remote access to the storage facility.
Tenant power models
Larger PV systems on apartment buildings can supply tenants with electricity. Just as with small private systems, however, the solar system does not always produce electricity when it is needed. Large-scale storage optimizes consumption, and landlords can sell more electricity directly to tenants instead of feeding it into the public grid at low prices.
Time of Use (TOU)
Time of Use describes deployment scenarios in which the aim is to use the electricity storage system according to a schedule. On the one hand, several scenarios listed here can be used at different times. On the other hand, operators can take advantage of different electricity tariffs and purchase electricity at favorable times and store it temporarily. Later, the electricity is used by the operator or sold again.
How much do commercial battery storage units cost?
Commercial storage tanks are rarely produced for the rack, nor are they purchased off the rack. They are individual installations, tailored to the specific situation on site. Flat-rate price quotations are not possible. In terms of pure acquisition costs for large storage tanks, the KWh prices range between 400 and 800 euros. In individual cases, however, the costs can vary greatly.
Intilion load profile analysis
The analysis tool from Intilion and be.storaged uses load profile data to analyze which Intilion battery storage system can be used and which costs can be saved.
SMA Sunny Design Pro
Sunny Design Pro not only takes load profiles and electricity bills into account, but also weather data. In this way, scenarios such as peak shaving can also be simulated. In addition, heat pumps or combined heat and power plants, for example, can be integrated into the planning.
